Hi,

I did a search for some rare parts and came across Utsource. They could be a good source for the "expensive" V9990 VDP: V9990 I hope, it is the correct V9990 (Yamahas VDP).
In addition they have the CPU, the DUART, the PI/T, the RGB encoder, the RTC, the ethernet controller, the CPLD and the VRAMs.

As for the SIDs, one has to resurrect them from a dead C64. Maybe a SwinSID can be used as drop-in replacement.

How reliable did you find utsource? I requested a quotation but they only quoted on some of the parts even though their site says they have stock of the other parts.

I didn't request a quote there myself. I just used their webinterface to check if the needed parts are on stock.
Which parts are missing a quote of UTSource?

Hi Simon,

They quoted $20 for a V9990 but no quotation on a MC68450RC10 quad DMA, I have pretty much everything else but am using a modern hispeed uart. I'm asking a US ebayer for a price for shipping for the DMA chips as they are selling them in lots of 3 but the dip version rather than the PGA. The DMA controller does not appear to be available from either Digikey or Mouser

I figured I'd get a board working mostly as a Kiwi before I started building the options for TMS34010 and SDCard and USB interface onto it, although I have cheated and used a MC68000-12 CPU rather than the MC68008-10.

Wow, you should throw in what you have in to the internal forum. There is a high demand for a MC68000 Kiwi. Does it use the V9990? Or are you going to use a V9990 cooperating with a TMS34010?

I'm expecting to put the V9990 intially to ensure compatability and have some thing that I can see working and then have the option to swap out for the TMS later once I've developed a bios for it.

I'll put something up once i have better than 'back of a fag packet' sketches of the schematics.

Just to confirm the UTSource part is the yamaha V9990 and total cost including shipping to the UK was $24.

A little over 3 weeks, they mail you an image of the chip before shipping, maybe so you can be sure its the correct chip.

Are you making progress with the V9990? I like it pretty much but it has it's disadvantages...
Lately I am still a bit lazy but read about programming gfx effects. I wonder how much use one can get by using the blitter. It is very fast but not that advanced as the Amiga blitter. BTW my advice is to add direct VRAM access for the CPU. This simplifies framebuffer usage and should speed it up as well. Especially if the CPU is 16Bit.
